Journaling & Mood

A private journal that helps you notice what keeps coming up

PsychPal lets you journal by text or voice, record how you are feeling and review patterns over time. Its reflections are intended to support self-awareness — not diagnose a condition or tell you what you should feel.

Text journaling

Write freely in a private, encrypted journal. There is no format to follow — you can write a few sentences or several paragraphs. PsychPal stores your entries securely and never uses them for advertising.

PsychPal periodically runs a private, automated analysis of your journal entries to help the AI sense your emotional rhythm over time. The result is used only to personalize the AI's responses to you — it is never shared, never sold, and never shown to staff.

Voice journaling

Speak your journal entry instead of typing it. PsychPal transcribes your voice and saves the text. Voice recordings are discarded after transcription — only the text is retained.

Voice journaling is useful when you want to capture a thought quickly, when typing feels like too much effort, or when speaking helps you process more naturally.

Mood check-ins

Log how you're feeling with a daily check-in. Choose from a range of emotional states and add a brief note if you want. Over time, these check-ins build a picture of your emotional patterns.

Mood data is stored privately and is not shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

Wins and growth tracking

Record small wins and moments of growth alongside your mood data. Noticing progress — even incremental progress — can be a meaningful part of self-reflection. PsychPal gives you a place to capture these moments so they don't get lost.

Pattern reflection over time

Review your mood history and journal entries to notice recurring themes. You might observe that certain situations, times of day or relationships tend to shift your mood in a particular direction.

These observations are for your own reflection. They are not medical assessments, diagnoses or clinical insights.

Preparing notes for a therapy session

Use your journal and mood history to prepare for an upcoming therapy appointment. Review what came up this week, identify the themes you want to discuss, and arrive with clearer questions.

PsychPal supports your work with a professional — it does not replace it.

Privacy and deletion controls

  • Journal entries and mood data are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and stored in Canada.
  • PsychPal never sells your personal information or uses journal contents for advertising.
  • You can delete individual entries or your entire account from within the app.
  • Account data is retained for seven years after closure to meet Canadian healthcare records norms, then permanently deleted.

What insights do and do not mean

Patterns you notice in PsychPal are observations to reflect on — not clinical findings. PsychPal does not diagnose anxiety, depression, burnout or any other condition. It does not assess the severity of your symptoms or recommend a treatment plan.

If you are concerned about your mental health, please speak with a qualified professional. If you may be in immediate danger, call emergency services or contact 988.
